Dru Nettles used to
hit people hard on the football field back in the day. On July 1, 2010,
The Dru Nettles Show hit the airwaves! Broadcasting live from
Big
Mike’s Sports Bar and Grill, Aspen Square in Denham Springs, The Dru
Nettles Show airs Thursday nights, 7pm-8pm (central) on The Score,
1210AM, Baton Rouge. Our program can also be heard on the Internet
at SportsGumbo.net.
Hosted by Denham Springs HS Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Dru
Nettles and Jon Fine, The Dru Nettles Show aspires
to provide listeners with an analytical, insightful, yet light-hearted
weekly journey into Denham Springs High School athletics.
Interviews with Jackets coaches and players take place on each program.
We have a weekly academic segment with either DS principal Kelly Jones,
his staff or a student. Live Oak High School has a guest on the show
each week. We talk to a Sponsor of The Week. And, there’s a
call-in segment at the end of the program.
The Dru Nettles Show is a Jon Fine Sports Production.
Jon also produces and does play-by-play for
Denham Springs HS sports broadcasts. Jon has produced these
broadcasts since 1994 and has called play-by-play for the Jackets since
2003, and had a prior 3 year stint behind the Denham microphone.
Jon Fine Sports also produces football broadcasts for
Central HS and Episcopal HS.
Weekly programs besides The Dru Nettles Show that are produced by Jon
Fine Sports Productions are Plaquemine Sports
Weekly and
The Sid Edwards Show. All of these
programs/broadcasts can be heard on a variety of radio stations.
They can also be heard live, right here, at SportsGumbo.net. For

The Dru Nettles Show follows 2 radio shows produced by Jon Fine Sports
Productions that largely involved Denham Springs HS athletics.
Livingston Sports Weekly originated in September 2006, airing on The
Score, 1210AM and SportsGumbo.net. This program covered the
athletic programs of Denham Springs HS, Live Oak HS and Walker HS.
Josh Ward originally hosted the show and handled the Denham Springs
HS segment. Josh was followed by Jon Fine. Robbie Harrison was our Live
Oak HS correspondent, with Chris Ledoux
following Walker HS. In January 2008, the program joined forces with
Central HS and became THE High School Sports Show, broadcasting live
from Fox’s
Pizza Den in Central. Steve Johnson
(Central HS) became part of the program.
On Thursday, July 1, 2010, THE High School Sports Show branched off into
The Dru Nettles Show and The Sid Edwards Show (Thursdays, 5pm-6pm,
broadcasting live from Fox’s Pizza Den in Central, on
WPFC, 1550AM, Baton Rouge or the Internet at SportsGumbo.net,
co-hosted by
Sid Edwards and Steve Johnson.)
The Dru Nettles Show and Denham Springs HS football and basketball
broadcasts all air on The Score, 1210AM, Fox Sports Radio, a Clear
Channel Station, in Baton Rouge. Denham Springs HS broadcasts have aired
on 1210AM—which has been The Score, 1210AM since 1998—for at least the
last 4 decades. The Score, 1210AM’s predecessor was Christian Country,
Bayou 1210AM—a station which was located on Hatchell Lane in Denham
Springs and was owned by Jeff and Nancy David.
Big Mike’s Sports Bar and Grill is located on Aspen Square in Denham
Springs (the former Cocodries). Owned by “Big Mike” O’Neal Jr. and
his wife Jocelyn O’Neal, Big Mike’s opened up in March 2010. Big
Mike is a Denham Springs HS graduate who played on the Jackets football
team with Dru Nettles. O’Neal Jr’s grandfather, Shelly O’Neal, was the
mayor of Denham Springs in the late 50’s/early 60’s. The Dru Nettles
Show is piped in throughout the restaurant on Thursday nights.
Everyone is invited to attend to see and hear the program at Big Mike’s.
