Steve Johnson

The irrepressible one…Just don’t ask him to spell irrepressible or give its meaning—Steve is a graduate of USL (SportsGumbo.net Editor is a McNeese guy!)…Defensive End coach for the Wildcats…After serving Central HS athletics in a number of capacities in last decade, he is now a full-time assistant football and baseball coach and teaches P.E…Serves himself a lot of food at hospitality room—informally named the Steve Johnson Hospitality Room—while being the entertaining P.A. announcer at Wildcats Basketball games.  Was even given fictitious position: Central HS Associate Athletic Director in charge of Hospitality…Once thrown out of a Central Basketball game in Lake Charles (while watching the game in the stands as a spectator) for exchanging pleasantries with game official…Inducted in 2009 into Baker HS Sports Hall of Fame…All-Conference Defensive Back with the Cajuns in 1972…Did not make all-conference academically, although graduated from USL in 1975 with a degree in Physical Education…Pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in Central…Does not try to proselytize Jon Fine for a very good reason.—Steve does not want Jon as a member of his church!...Former Justice of the Peace in Central area…Son, Steven, Jr., a 2004 Central HS grad, was a standout baseball and football player in high school, and played professionally in New York Mets farm system…Former co-host (with Wes Watts) of popular Central radio/Internet program in mid-00’s—Central Coaches Corner…As Central Contributor to THE High School Sports Show, was known to steal pizza from hosts and guests while they are on the air and defenseless during Fox’s Pizza Den broadcasts…Married to Darryl Brupbacher of Lafayette…2 children Jaime and Steve…3 grandchildren…Brother-in-law is former NFL linebacker Ross Brupbacher…says his favorite movie is replay of 1972 USL-McNeese game, a 10-0 Cajuns win…Does not like sequels—just about all McNeese victories!

Steve Johnson is the co-host of The Sid Edwards Show, Thursdays, 5pm-6pm, broadcasting live from Fox’s Pizza Den, Magnolia Bridge Road in Central on WPFC, 1550AM, Baton Rouge and on the Net, right here at SportsGumbo.net.
