What do you do when you have 4
large high schools within a 5 mile radius? You have a weekly
hour sports show featuring sports figures from these 4 schools!
You have THE High School Sports Show!!
Debuting in January 2008, THE High
School Sports Show airs Thursday nights, 7pm--8pm, broadcasting
live from Fox's Pizza Den -at the intersections of Greenwell
Springs and Magnolia Bridge
in the City Market Shopping Center - on The Score, 1210AM, Fox
Sports Radio, Baton Rouge.
Our program can also be heard live on the Internet, right here,
at www.SportsGumbo.net,
see Home Page, upper left-hand corner.
THE High School Sports Show
features Central HS, Denham Springs HS, Live Oak HS and Walker
HS. Coaches, players and sports personalities from these 4
schools are interviewed on a weekly basis on the program.
THE High School Sports Show
provides listeners with an in-depth look at the athletic
programs at Central, Denham, Live Oak and Walker. During
football season, each week's program features interviews with
Eagles coach Robbie Mahfouz, Jackets coach Dru Nettles, (Central)
Wildcats coach Sid Edwards and (Walker) Wildcats coach Mike Todd. These coaches will appear periodically on the program
for the rest of the year. During basketball season, THE High
School Sports Show includes weekly appearances from Central
coach Sid Edwards (boys), Denham
coaches Wynn Wingate (boys) and Shellie LaPrarie (girls), Live
Oak coach Brian Hargroder (boys) and Bryan Phenix (girls), and Walker coaches
Anthony Schiro (boys) and John McMillan (girls). Coaches from
Baseball, Softball, Track and Volleyball also visit with us
Thursday nights at Fox's Pizza Den. Interspersed with these coaches
are other sports figures from Central, Denham, Live Oak and
Walker. Also, we usually honor a different sponsor each week as
our "Sponsor of The Week".
THE High School Sports Show is
hosted by Jon Fine. Fine also handles the Denham Springs
interviews. Central HS's interviews are conducted by
Steve Johnson, a Central
football and baseball assistant coach.
Chris Ledoux, a former high school football coach and
present Walker basketball PA announcer, handles the Walker
HS segment. Our Live Oak interview is conducted by
Robbie Harrison, the Eagles football
PA Announcer.
THE High School show is a followup
to Livingston Sports Weekly, which aired on The Score, 1210AM,
Fox Sports Radio since September 2006. The program started out
as a 40 minute show hosted by Josh Ward, preceding
Denham Springs football broadcasts.
In November 2006, the show moved to Thursday nights, became an
hour show and began broadcasting live from Lafleur's. In
January 2008 we added Central to the 3 Livingston Parish Schools
(Denham, Live Oak, Walker) and became THE High School Sports
Show. In July 2008, the host restaurant of our program became
Fox's Pizza Den.
THE High School Sports Show is a
Jon Fine Sports Production. Jon produced the predecessor of The High
School Sports show, Livingston Sports Weekly. He has produced
Denham Springs sports broadcasts on 1210AM since 1994. Jon
serves as radio play-by-play announcer for Denham Springs HS
football and basketball. A popular central program "Central
Coaches Corner", hosted by Steve Johnson and
Wes Watts , was produced by Jon Fine Sports Productions.
Jon also produces Denham Springs HS broadcasts (and serves as
Jackets pbp announcer) and Central HS broadcasts. Steve Johnson handles
play-by-play for Central (assisted by Wes Watts on color).
Chris Ledoux calls play-by-play for Walker HS (with Jeff Meades).
