THE GURU RETURNETH!..In our younger days,
known as “The Bayou Recruiting Guru”. We’ve shortened his name, at
present, to “Guru”… Olin Berthelot was previously a contributor to
Monday Morning Quarterback and SPORTSGUMBO’s old-school predecessor,
SPORTSTALK, as a football recruiting expert. Initially (early 90’s)
appeared with the late, great Bill “Prop 48” Evans on the program.
Believed to be the first recruiting segment in Baton Rouge radio
history. (The rest may be all downhill!)…Lifelong resident of Gonzales,
LA…Married to the former Trella LeBlanc, who goes by Mrs. Berthelot, not
as Mrs. Guru, much to the chagrin of Jon…3 children, 4
grandchildren…Brother is the former mayor (Johnny Berthelot of
Gonzales), son-in-law is a state representative (Jody Amadee), so is
comfortable in joining such dignitaries as callers Bobby (from Baton
Rouge), Brandon (from New Orleans) and Mike (from Plaquemine), not to
mention Jon Fine, on Monday Morning
Quarterback…Served 4 years in US Air Force (many he served with are
still trying to interpret what he said via his Cajun accent)…owner of
Bayou Financial Services and 17 other Finance companies throughout the
state of Louisiana (perhaps having numerous Monday Morning Quarterback
listeners and a host or 2 of our programs throughout the years as
debtors?)…Spent over 30 years as an ultra-successful youth baseball
coach in Gonzales, where he coached Ben Sheets, Mike Moehler, former LSU
player Buzzy Haydel (Olin has tried to force Buzzy’s dad to listen to
our program) and others…Believes LSU was sole champion in 2003 (Editor’s
Note: not sure if Olin still believes in Santa and Easter Bunny
too)…Says Jon Fine was, is and will always be a Yankee!
Olin
Berthelot does a weekly segment for Monday Morning Quarterback, Mondays,
8am-9am, on radio stations in the River Parishes/Baton Rouge (KKAY,
1590AM), New Orleans (ESPN, 1560 AM)
and Lake Charles (KEZM, 1310AM). |
