Two great stories converged on July 1,
2010. The return of a weekly Central sports show to the radio and
Internet, which has been sorely missed by Central sports fans the last 3
½ years, coincided with one of the coaching legends in Louisiana,
Sid Edwards, the man who resurrected the
long-dormant Central HS football program, having his own show.
This is the day that saw the debut of The Sid Edwards Show, a 52 week a
year Central program, broadcasting live from Fox’s
Pizza Den, Magnolia
Bridge Road in Central, Thursday nights, 5pm-6pm (central…the ultimate
duo connotation) on WPFC, 1550AM, Baton
Rouge. Our program can also be heard on the Internet at
SportsGumbo.net.
The Sid Edwards Show is co-hosted by City of Central Athletic Director
Sid Edwards and Wildcats assistant football and basketball coach
Steve Johnson. Concentrating largely on Central HS athletics,
The Sid Edwards Show features weekly interviews with both present and
past Wildcats coaches and players. There is an academic segment,
including an interview with either Central HS principal Bob Wales, a
member of his staff, or a Central Student. Quite often, The Sid
Edwards show includes a piece on the vibrant City of Central Chamber of
Commerce and major stories that are taking place in the community.
Each week, a sponsor is invited to appear on the program as Sponsor of
The Week.
The Sid Edwards Show is a Jon Fine Sports Production.
Jon also produces Central HS Internet football
broadcasts and has produced various Central HS radio/Internet
broadcasts in prior years. Central Coaches Corner, produced by
Jon, was a very popular Central program in the mid 00’s. Weekly high
school sports programs, in addition to The Sid Edwards Show, produced by
Jon Fine Sports Productions presently include
Plaquemine Sports Weekly and The Dru Nettles
Show. Besides Central Internet football broadcasts, Jon also
produces broadcasts for
Denham Springs HS and
Episcopal HS. All of these
programs/broadcasts can be heard on a variety of radio stations.
They can also be heard live, right here, at SportsGumbo.net. For
more info on Jon Fine Sports Productions, please see “Jon

The Sid Edwards Show has emerged from 3 prior weekly sports shows
produced by Jon Fine Sports Productions. Central Coaches Corner,
hosted by Steve Johnson and Wes Watts, aired on The Score, 1210AM, Baton
Rouge and SportsGumbo.net between September 2005 and December 2006.
As Central Coaches Corner left the airwaves, another program, Livingston
Sports Weekly, continued to air on The Score and SportsGumbo.net.
In January 2008, Central HS joined the party in what became known as THE
High School Sports Show. Steve Johnson served as the Central HS
correspondent, with Jon Fine hosting both the program and the Denham
Springs HS segment, Robbie Harrison was our Live Oak HS man, with
Chris Ledoux on Walker HS.
On Thursday, July 1, 2010, THE High School Sports Show branched off into
The Sid Edwards Show and The Dru Nettles Show (Thursdays, 7pm-8pm,
broadcasting live from Big Mike’s Sports Bar and Grill in Denham
Springs, on The Score, 1210AM and the Internet at SportsGumbo.net,
co-hosted by Dru Nettles and
Jon Fine.)
The Sid Edwards Show airs on a gospel station—WPFC (and on the Net at
SportsGumbo.net). WPFC stands for Winning People For Christ.
Pastor Ralph Moore, the station’s owner, is largely involved with WPFC
both on and off the air. Pastor Moore is also a coach of a youth
football team, the Baton Rouge Raiders. He resides in the city of
Central.
Fox’s Pizza Den is located on Magnolia Bridge Road in the Magnolia
Bridge Shopping Center in Central. Owned by Joey Keller, Fox’s
Pizza Den was the host restaurant of THE High School Sports Show since
August 2009 and was a big proponent of this program and Central
athletics. He enthusiastically embraced the arrival of The Sid
Edwards Show. We encourage everyone to attend to see and hear the
The Sid Edwards Show at Fox’s. Fox’s Pizza Den in Central.
Fox’s Pizza Den has a second location in Zachary.
Assisting The Sid Edwards Show, both on and off the air, is Central HS
teacher and Coach Victoria Eskola. Victoria, with husband, Thomas,
was a loyal devotee of Central Coaches Corner and THE High School Sports
Show.
We encourage Central HS Wildcats Fans to advertise in the Central
program and on signs at Wildcats Stadium. For more information, e-mail
